In short

The best way to test a tattoo is to wear it: order your exact design as a 2-week tattoo in the size you are planning, put it exactly where it should go and live with it for one to two weeks. You will see how it looks in the mirror, in clothes, at work and in photos – and you can still change everything before a tattoo artist makes it permanent.

A tattoo is one of the few decisions you make for life in an afternoon. Screens and stencils help, but they do not show you how it feels to see the design every morning, at work, in summer or in a photo from the side. A 2-week tattoo does: you wear your future tattoo for real, without needles – and then decide.

Why test a tattoo before you get it?

  • Size: designs often look bigger on screen than on skin – or smaller than you expected.
  • Placement: the inner forearm looks different from the outer one, the spine different from the shoulder blade.
  • Everyday life: is it visible in a shirt, at work, in swimwear? Do you want that?
  • Your gut feeling: after two weeks you know whether you still love it or are relieved when it fades.

How do you test a tattoo with a 2-week tattoo?

  1. Get the designYour own artwork, a design from your tattoo artist or one you create with AI.
  2. Match the sizeChoose the size that matches your planned tattoo – not smaller.
  3. Apply it exactlySame spot, same angle. Ask someone to help for the back or shoulder.
  4. Live with itWear it for 1–2 weeks. Take photos from different angles.
  5. DecideLove it? Book the artist. Not sure? Change it and test again.

To design your own test tattoo, use the customizer – step by step in design your own 2-week tattoo. No design yet? The AI tattoo generator creates one from your description and lets you try it on a photo of your skin first.

What should you check while you wear it?

  1. Morning test: do you still smile when you see it in the mirror after a week?
  2. Clothes test: how does it look with your usual clothes – and when it peeks out?
  3. Photo test: look at photos from the side and from a distance. That is how others see it.
  4. Movement test: does the design still work when you bend your arm or turn your torso?
  5. Reaction test: what do people close to you say? You do not have to listen, but it helps.

Good to knowA 2-week tattoo develops dark blue to black, a fresh tattoo is black. Shape, size and placement are exactly what you test – the final shade will be a little darker with real ink.

How do you take the result to your tattoo artist?

Bring the design file and your best photos of the test tattoo. They show the artist the exact size and position you want. Tattoo artists usually adapt a design to the body and their own style anyway – your test gives them a clear starting point.

Can you test several versions?

Yes. Once the first test has faded completely, you can try a different size or spot. Give your skin a short break and wait until the old design is fully gone before applying a new one on the same spot.

Frequently asked questions

Which areas of my body are best for a Tattup tattoo?

The durability of your Tattup tattoo depends significantly on where you put it. Areas with less friction and minimal water exposure will help your tattoo stay fresh longer. Here are some tips:

Inner Forearm: One of the best spots—low friction, high visibility, and longer-lasting designs.

Upper Arm or Shoulder: Also great choices, as these areas experience less daily wear and tear.

Wrists or Hands: These areas move a lot and face frequent washing, so tattoos here might fade faster—but they do look pretty awesome :D

Feet and Ankles: Tattoos here tend to fade quicker due to constant movement and shoe friction.

What tattoo sizes do you offer?

Our tattoos come in seven sizes – from small fine-line designs to full sleeves. Each product page shows the exact measurements in the image gallery, and in the customizer you can choose any of these sizes for your own design.

Maximum size per tattoo:

  • XS — 3 × 4 cm
  • S — 5 × 9 cm
  • M — 7 × 13 cm
  • L — 10 × 18 cm
  • XL — 13 × 22 cm
  • Huge — 20 × 30 cm (half sleeve or back piece)
  • Extra Huge — 20 × 60 cm (full sleeve)
Can I re-tattoo the same spot once it begins to fade?

Give your skin a mini vacation. We recommend waiting until the old design is fully gone before layering on a new one. That reduces chances of irritation or sensitivity.

How long before an event should I apply my tattoo?

Ideally 1–2 days before. Right after applying, your tattoo is barely visible – it only develops its full color within 24–48 hours. So for a wedding, holiday or festival, plan ahead.
